Ideas for Family Time During Home Isolation

What are some fun things to do at home during home isolation?

It's just been a week after the lockdown here in the Philippines, and things are getting boring already. Due to COVID-19, everyone needs to stay at home, and now it's taking its toll on the young ones who can't go out and play with their friends.

The lockdown was announced before the end of their classes. The sad thing is, they didn't even have the chance to say goodbye to their classmates for this school year.

However, there's something good with home isolation. Families can spend more quality time before hitting the busy road after the lockdown. For my first post, I want to give five fun things I do with my family. And since it's already summer in the Philippines, they can also be fun summer activities for the kids.

1. Get your kids moving.

Last year, we bought a badminton set, but we did not use it that much because everyone seemed to be busy all the time. But now, my husband and I have the perfect time to teach our kids how to play badminton. This is also an excellent way to lessen your kid's screen time and give them a new hobby that makes them more active. They'll stay healthy, too.  What are some family sports activities you can do together?  Check this out.

2. Enjoy a movie marathon

What movie do you like to watch with the whole family? For us, we love watching Korean dramas together. After dinner, we all cuddle together in the living room to watch our favorite Kdramas. Kdramas are safe for children to watch because they are light and suitable for general audiences. This 2020, one of the Kdrama to watch on Netflix is the Itaewon Class. It's a story of how one person puts his efforts to achieve his dream.

3. Help your kids with some arts and crafts.

One of the easy DIY work my daughter made at home was the bamboo pencil holder. She asked his dad to cut a 6-inch bamboo with the node, and I helped her design it with yarns and colored pens. I also love crocheting, and when my child asked me to teach her, I was thrilled to do it.  Here are some sites you can visit for DIY ideas using materials at home.

4. Do gardening together

Gardening is one way to let the children apply what they have learned in their Botany lessons. It's also a helpful exercise for their eyes since they always use their gadgets this home isolation time.

5. Play a card or board game

Board games are excellent brain exercises and family bonding activities. For us, we bought almost all kinds of board and card games in the bookstore like chess, scrabble, snakes and ladders, Uno, and Dos. I don't know what available card or board game you have at home, but check these sites to learn how to play some of them.

Well, staying at home to protect ourselves from COVID-19 can also be a fun and exciting time for the whole family. It is also our time to spend quality time with them and teach them some nuggets of wisdom.  After the lockdown, you may also want to have picnics in the river.  Stay safe!
